Welcome aboard. I’m Billy Cox, and if you’re here, you probably love life on the water as much as I do. Boats have been my thing since 1977, when I picked up my first wooden Trojan as a wild-eyed college kid at Chico State. Ever since, I’ve chased the thrill of open water—from California lakes to the winding paths of the ICW on the East Coast. For me, there’s nothing quite like a sunrise over the bow or swapping stories with fellow boaters at the marina.

These boating adventures shaped who I am and how I run this business. After earning my degree, I spent decades in the insurance world, starting out with Western Growers, helping farmers in California protect their
livelihoods. Over the years I learned the ins and outs of insurance, built a reputation for looking out for my clients, and discovered a real need in the boating community for friendly, trustworthy help. I’m not here to throw insurance jargon at you—I’m here to keep things simple, safe, and reliable, so you can get back to what matters most.

No story about my life on the water is complete without my wife, Gari. She’s not just my first mate—she’s the heart and soul of our floating home, Steelaway. With over 40 years in the hospitality industry and credentials as a certified chef, Gari brings warmth, creativity, and incredible meals to life on board.
Through her work at Gari’s Galley, she’s on a mission to help people reconnect with real food—sharing wholesome, homemade recipes and teaching others how to move away from processed, chemical-laden products. Whether it’s sourcing ingredients
from local farmers markets or whipping up a fresh meal in our tiny galley, she proves that good food doesn’t require a big kitchen—just a little care and intention.
